In the 5th century B.C., Indo-Aryan emigration took place from India, to form the largest ethnic group on a small piece of island today known as “Sri Lanka,” which was earlier known as Sinhalese. Greek, Egyptian, and Indian Literature were the place where this small country found its rest. Originally, from the Tamil region this second largest ethnic group on the island found its way to emigrate between the 3rd Century B. C. and A. D. 1200. The Ceylon (Sri Lanka’s name until 1972) founders fought, for their rights over the island. Then, British took over its hold in 1796, and after getting independence on Feb. 4, 1948, under the vision of world’s first female prime minister in 1960, the name “Ceylon” translated into “Sri-Lanka.” Even after being an isolated Island, the country Sri Lanka stood apart to make its name.
